Who is DeLos Vodka? DeLos Vodka is the first and only vodka distillery in the history of North Texas being made in a suburb of North Dallas. The story begins on the back porch of Carlos' house, the owner and founder of DeLos Vodka. Carlos' brother-in-law was making vodka and moonshine in Florida and after a family reunion Carlos decided to pick up the habit. After lots of experimenting on the back porch a decision was made to move to the garage where the hobby really came to life. After a receipt was finalized, Carlos began giving it to friends and family as gifts. Before he knew it, he had orders for his backyard vodka. Carlos decided to make the operation legal and leased a small 900 sqft building in Dallas. The bottle design, name and vacuum concept began to come to life while all federal and state permits were approved. Carlos introduced the concept to Republic National Distribution Company who agreed to sell the product. Carlos decided more room was needed for manufacturing and moved to a much larger plant in Lewisville, Texas. Republic picked up the first order in June 2009 which began to be distributed around north Texas in July 2009. As popularity and demand grew the decision was made to move statewide which should begin in February 2010. What is the Vodka made from? DeLos Vodka is handcrafted in small batches with a fanatic attention to detail. The product is made from scratch by fermenting a combination of wheat and rye which is then transferred into a vacuum still that produces the cleanest and most flavoresome vodka. The entire company was built from scratch with one key focus, a small handcrafted vodka company that has the heart of Texans in mind. Carlos has been a Texas resident since 1993 and is a huge supporter of keeping it local. Not only is the product made in Texas but every piece of the package from the label to the box to the cap is from a Texas company. |
DeLos Vodka is one of three vacuum distilleries in the world and the only vacuum distillery in the United States. Although vacuum distillation produces a cleaner and smoother vodka, it is a much more time consuming process and requires more attention during the distillation process. Most stills can be turned on and allowed to run hands free. A vacuum still requires constant monitoring but results in a premium vodka. The process itself is a more controlled method of producing alcohol. Distillation of alcohol may be accomplished in many different ways. In all cases a heat source is required. Heat is used to bring the mash (the results of fermentation) to a boil which transforms the alcohol into a gas. The gas then travels through the still and is deposited into a collection tank. The problem that occurs when heat is applied is the burning and scorching of the mash. This is a typical and an accepted part of the process for many distilleries but has a huge impact on the final flavor of the Vodka. Vacuum distillation is a new technique in manufacturing spirits. This type of distillation uses suction to move the alcohol through the still instead of excessive heat. Therefore, vacuum distillation requires lower temperatures resulting in a higher quality Vodka. Heat is still used to bring our mash to a boil but the vacuum system sucks the vapors through the still instead of using long periods of excessive heat to accomplish the task. Vacuum distillation is not being used by any other spirit manufacturers in the United States. The expensive cost of the equipment is a common deterrent for most distilleries as well as the increased time it takes to produce a batch. The main focus of DeLos Vodka is not to achieve mass production but quality and pride in the final product. Each batch of Vodka produced takes up to two weeks to make which ensures a phenomenally smooth taste with careful oversight. This time consuming process is a key in making our handcrafted Vodka. Why is DeLos Vodka only Triple Distilled? Many manufactures of Vodka have to distill their product several times to purify the taste and filter out the undesired flavors caused by using excessive heat. With the use of a vacuum system, the taste of burned yeast and contaminants is nonexistent. Therefore, there is no need to distill the Vodka over and over again. One distillation run using a vacuum system is comparable to several traditional distillation runs. One could say that DeLos Vodka is distilled fifteen times but this would not give Vacuum Distillation justice. By Triple Vacuum Distilling the Vodka, we ensure that even the minimal scorched taste from the short periods of heat used is removed, producing our incomparable flavor. |

What is the Water Source? No, the water used is not imported from some exotic place around the world or pumped from a stream that is downhill from some spectacular glacier. It is water from Dallas. The difference is in the filtration system. The water used is taken and run through a reverse osmosis machine. Reverse osmosis consists of a several stage filter that removes all minerals and nutrients, leaving behind solely the molecular compound of H2O. Reverse osmosis is so pure that pharmaceutical companies use this same process when developing medications to ensure the consistency of the drug and purity of the water. Once the water is cleansed a special and unique combination of nutrients and minerals are added to acquire a unique flavor. This specific taste ensures a consistent flavor and the purity of the Vodka. By purifying the water using these techniques DeLos Vodka may also ensure the water used is not polluted with undesirable contaminants or byproducts that will change the flavor. What does DeLos mean? The owner and founder of DeLos Vodka is Carlos Guillem. Carlos' nickname since childhood has been "Los." The word "De" means from in Spanish. Therefore, DeLos means "From Carlos."
